Abstract:

This article is devoted to the problem of the nominal components of the German analytical verbal-nominal constructions in correlation with their root verbs. The purpose of this article is the researching of the relationship of the analytical verbal-nominal constructions and the verbs with the close meaning and having the same root with the nouns on the examples from H. Böll’s novel “A group portrait with lady”. In comparison of the analytical constructions and the correlating verbs their semantic discrepancy shows very vividly. The semantic importance of the nominal component of the analytical construction is shown by that fact that in the presence of the verb with the close meaning the latter has the same root not with the verbal but with the nominal component of the compound units. The conclusion is that the analytical verbal-nominal constructions may differ semantically from their producing simple root verbs they are derived from. The analytical constructions are monosemantic and seldom receive figurative meanings, many simple verbs are polysemantic.
